High school vs club: what's different
The handful of ways the two team types diverge — meet entry, rosters, and defaults
Last updated 6/17/2026
CoachBrighter supports both high school and club teams. Most features work the same for both — managing your roster, building events and meets, importing results, and tracking records. The two team types differ mainly in how athletes get into a meet, plus a few setup details.
The main difference: meet entry
High school teams build the lineup. As the coach, you enter athletes into events and assign heats and lanes yourself — see High School Meets.
Club teams let athletes and guardians declare the events they want to swim, and you review and approve those declarations — see Club Meets.
Everything else that differs
| Area | High School | Club |
|---|---|---|
| Meet entry | Coach seeds athletes | Athletes/guardians declare; coach approves |
| Athlete roster | Tracked by grade | Tracked by date of birth |
| Divisions | Varsity, JV, and Frosh/Soph created for you | Optional — group by age group if you want |
| Conversion factors | NFHS defaults | NCAA defaults |
| Athlete & guardian portals | Subscription-dependent | Subscription-dependent |
